Practice for Success

Students should want to practice, because they hear improvement and enjoy the music that they are playing.

Forcing students to practice if they are constantly resistant is not good for anyone (student, parent, or teacher).  Here are some helpful tips to develop good practice habits with your child:

Listen to your child practice... they enjoy showing off their successes.

Encourage your child with positive praise.  If you hear progress, please tell them.

Have your child give a mini-recital for relatives.  Grandparents love the opportunity to hear their grandchildren perform!

  2.    Check your handbook for instrument specific materials required.

Expectations

Students need to attend all rehearsals, unless excused in advance by the director, or in cases of illness.  Please notify Mrs. Danley by e-mail if your child can not attend a rehearsal.

Students also need to be prompt to their rehearsals.  Time is at a minimum and we want to help your children succeed.  It is very hard for a child to develop good warm-up and practice habits, when they always miss this part of the lesson.

Students are required to practice their instruments at home.  It is nice to have a quiet room with few distractions.  With some of the tools included with the books, students may need access to a DVD player and/or computer.  Although this may not be the ideal location for practice, it will be very beneficial.  There are amazingly helpful tools included on the disks in your child’s book.  Please encourage them to use these resources!

Treble Clef

Mr. Oliver from Treble Clef comes to our school weekly to deliver items our students order.  For instance, if you need replacement valve oil, reeds, grease, or music, you can order it and have it delivered right to school!  Call Treble Clef directly to order what you need!

Private Teachers

Private teachers are not required in order to participate in band.  However, having a private lesson teacher can be very beneficial to students as they’re learning their instrument.  Try talking to parents and music stores in the area for private teachers that may be able to help your child succeed!

Call local music stores (like Treble Clef) for Private teachers!
